Posted on 17 August 2010 in Branch Events by Lyn

Our next event will be a guided walk and a coffee morning to raise funds for the Branch on

SUNDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2010 @ 10.00AM

The walk will start at Kingskerswell Church, Kingskerswell, at 10.00am, covers approximately 4 miles  and will last roughly 2 hours. It is a circular route taking in Kingskerswell Downs through woods and over meadows and down a lane. There is some uphill walking at the beginning.

The walk is being led by a Trustee of the Branch who has extensive  local  knowledge of the area. Sturdy shoes and waterproofs are advised. The walk is suitable for all ages and well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. There is a suggested donation of £2 per walker. (The Coffee Morning will still be going on at the end of the walk.)

The Coffee Morning is being held in the Coffee Room, near the church. Anyone not wishing to walk can support us at the coffee morning, where there will be tea, coffee, and cakes available, (and a good natter)!

If you would like to take part just turn up at the church by 9.45 am on the day.

SPONSORED DOG WALK

Posted on 2 March 2010 in Branch Events by Lyn

Well our latest sponsored walk on Sunday 28th March 2010 was a great success.

We had 11 well behaved dogs walking including the star of the day Sylvester – more about him later.

Everyone was delighted the rain held off , it was a very pleasant walk starting from The Little Theatre then first along Meadfoot Beach( even the tide was out- anybody would think we planned this !!) then up Ilsham Valley, on then up through the woods and finally along Lincombe Drive and back to The Little Theatre for some much needed refreshments.Everyone had a great time despite the early start due to putting the clocks forward and over £250 was raised on the day with the final figure expected to be around an AMAZING £300 when all the money is collected in.

The star of the day was undoubtedly Sylvester a 3 legged Chinese Crested Hairless dog belonging to one of our Volunteer Fundraising team Kim Dixon, he looks very frail and fragile as you can see from the photo but he is obviously tougher than he looks.

WELL DONE SYLVESTER!

THANK YOU to all those who took part, all the volunteers who helped out on the day and everyone at The Little Theatre for making their facilities available to us and for providing the refreshments

Sylvester  had suffered with a heart condition for a long while ,was getting progressively weaker and weaker so sadly on the 6th May 2010 his owner Kim made the difficult decision to ask the vets to relieve his suffering and put Sylvester to sleep. It was a very sad occasion for Kim and for all the staff at the welfare clinic who had cared for Sylvester and grown to love him. Thank you for everything Sylvester, for being such a wonderful character and we all hope you enjoy life in doggy heaven.RIP

Newton Abbot Carnival

Posted on 16 July 2009 in Branch Events by Lyn

Well the ususal British Summer did us proud for the Newton Abbot Carnival on Saturday 11th July!  Considering the awful weather we were pleasantly surprised by the number of people that came to our stall and we raised a respectable amount of money.

One of our youngest volunteers Phoebe, did a sterling job, going around the crowd, giving out information leaflets and stickers and we’d like to say a Big Thank You to her for that. Lots of people commented that they’d seen our new shop in Newton Abbot, so if you haven’t visited it yet, make it a priority.

We recently  had a wonderful donation of brand new clothing from a local company, some of which were designer labels so get along  there before they’re all gone! Thank you to everyone who took part.

We’d like  to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all who took part, including the volunteers that helped with marshalling and tea making.

We raised an AMAZING total of just over £444,  so well done to everyone.
